Fix It. Refresh it. Upgrade it. Secure it.

Passion for Technology

Working in the I.T. industry can be very rewarding when you are able to resolve and fix one or more client's concerns with their personal or business machines. However, not all hardware issues can be repaired and outdated applications can't always be upgraded - just like our smartphones, electronic devices have a limited time span of support and may need to be upgraded or replaced overtime.

Upgrading, Maintaining, and Purchasing a Machine to Work for Your Needs.

I am known to purchase many laptops and computers in bulk from a local technology recycling company to give these used machines new life after they have been returned from a business leasing program. They are in better condition than making a purchase for a used consumer laptop, which I focus on business laptops as these machines are always built better and easier to upgrade than a newly purchased consumer grade laptop from your local big box store. In turn, clients who decide to move forward with a renewed business grade machine over a new consumer machine, creates not only an environmentally friendly option, but also brings the power of computing back into the hands of the user.

Unfortunately, Apple products are not easily upgradable or fixable. You would have to visit an Apple Certified Technician or Apple directly and probably pay an obscene amount of money for such services or buy a new machine. If you're looking to maintain and clean the interior of a Mac, a Certified Apple Technician isn't required but should be strongly considered.

Chromebooks, like Apple products, are also disposable items. You get what you paid for and you're pretty much stuck with the machine until Google no longer supports it (8 to 10 years beyond the release date). These devices are very handy in online focused computing needs and benefit most people who are invested into the Google ecosystem. Chromebooks are also widely used because of their longer support than Apple, are much more cost effective, and have greater security than Apple products.

The downfall of Apple and Chromebooks are a bit different. Apple can run full applications unlike a Chromebook, which a Chromebook requires the simplicity of a smaller and less powerful application such as a mobile sized app due to limited hardware, but when the application on an Apple device is upgraded by the developer and your Apple machine can't handle the needed hardware requirements, you have to buy a new machine.

Windows and Linux machines are much easier to maintain, renew, and upgrade. They also offer stronger and longer support for software and upgradability with many options for hardware upgrades / components than Apple. If you're looking to buy or upgrade a laptop or PC, make sure to have your technician who is fixing or selling you a machine to explain the machine or component is being installed, what the benefit of the machine or component will provide you, and also question any upgrade recommendations that the technician offers in addition to your renewed machine purchase or servicing of your current machine. You don't want to pay for something that isn't going to benefit you in the future.

Linux and Chrome OS also refresh your older devices with a new operating system and save your laptop or PC from being tossed in a landfill. I am not aware if Apple with their silicon processors are able to be salvaged and renewed like a PC machine or laptop with Linux or ChromeOS.

So, in conclusion I would recommend a Windows machine over an Apple or Chromebook machine due to the versatility of software and hardware upgradability. However, I would not recommend a New Consumer Grade Windows Laptop over a renewed Business Laptop as these consumer laptop manufacturers are now following the footsteps of Apple and sauntering their components onto the motherboard, limiting the upgradability of their products so you buy a new one when it's time for an upgrade. We now live in a world where consumer grade Laptops are disposable items and a way for the big manufacturers to make more money from you.
